Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Black Panther 3 is in development, with producer Nate Moore returning and director Ryan Coogler expected to helm the project once he completes his film Sinners.  One of the biggest pieces of casting news is that Denzel Washington will have a specially‑written role in Black Panther 3. Coogler confirmed that Washington is joining the film in a custom part.  Other returning characters expected include Letitia Wright’s Shuri (who took up the mantle of Black Panther in Wakanda Forever), Winston Duke’s M’Baku, and possibly others from Wakanda’s leadership.

Although there is no fully confirmed plot released yet, early reports suggest the film may explore vibranium anomalies in Wakanda—mysterious “echoes” of former Black Panthers—that might involve time, space, or possibly supernatural or mythic elements.  These “echoes” may allow the story to revisit aspects of past Black Panthers or to examine the legacy of Wakanda in a broader cosmic or multiversal context.

Release date rumors place Black Panther 3 in February 2028, though this is not yet confirmed.  Part of the reason for the delay is that Coogler is busy with other projects, and Marvel seems to be carving out a place for this film after other major MCU events like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

One major question surrounds the status of T’Challa, given Chadwick Boseman’s passing. So far, Marvel has denied rumors about recasting T’Challa. Producer Nate Moore has said that they “haven’t even started serious talks” about recasting the character. Instead, speculation points to T’Challa’s son (revealed in the post‑credits of Wakanda Forever) potentially playing a bigger role, or for Shuri continuing as Black Panther.

In sum, Black Panther 3 is shaping up to be more than just another sequel. It is likely to deepen the mythos of Wakanda, explore legacy and ancestry, perhaps bring in supernatural or multiversal dimensions, while maintaining core characters and introducing heavyweight talent like Washington. The balance between honoring what has come before and pushing the story into new territory seems to be the key challenge. Fans are waiting eagerly, but Marvel appears to be moving cautiously, taking time to get both story and cast aligned.
